Understanding the UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN Sustainable Development Goals

“We are the first generation that can end poverty, the last that can end climate change”.

These are the words of the UN Secretary General in 2015.

This was the year that the UN launched their 17 Sustainability Development Goals that are to be achieved by 2030. The attached document lists all 17.

However the 17 goals are better understood by re-arranging them under the 5Ps headings.

People

No poverty – Goal1
Zero hunger – Goal 2
Good Health and Wellbeing – Goal 3
Quality Education – Goal 4
Gender Equality – Goal 5
Clean Water and Sanitisation – Goal 6

Planet

Climate Action – Goal13
Life below Water – Goal14
Life on Land – Goal 15

Prosperity

Affordable Clean Energy – Goal 7
Decent Work and Economic Development – Goal 8
Industry Innovation and Infrastructure – Goal 9
Reduce Inequalities – Goal10
Sustainable Cities and Communities – Goal 11
Responsible Consumption and Production – Goal 12

Peace

Peace Justice and strong Institutions – Goal 16

Partnerships

Partnerships for the Goals – Goal 17

Each Goal has a set of targets to be achieved by 2030. For example end hunger and ensure access by all people, particularly the poor and people in vulnerable situations, like infants, to safe nutritious and sufficient food all year round

Do you believe we can meet them?

Do you own a business or know of one that is contributing to any of them?
